Phew! We made it!

Hard to believe but Chad & I celebrate 13 wonderful years of marriage today. 13 years ago today we professed our eternal love for each other in front of friends & family. Well honestly I don't know what we agreed to that fateful day as my memory is a bit fuzzy. I am pretty sure someone must have drugged me, and I am pretty sure Chad was about three sheets to the wind BEFORE the ceremony started...

Seriously though...I sure lucked out when he came into my life. And what a story that is!

So around Christmas of 1997 mutual friends of ours invited me to a Christmas Party. My friend's husband and Chad worked together. I met Chad, and even hung out with Chad but Chad does not remember me....Three sheets again!

Fast forward to June 1999. I had recently broken up with a guy and had moved out on my own. Our friends wanted to introduce us again (sober this time!). You know, so I could have a good guy friend that I could hang out with and who wouldn't "try to get into my pants". Later I mentioned this to Chad and he said "I'm a guy. If give the opportunity to get into your pants, I would have!"

So our friends set up a blind date. Well blind for Chad because, if you remember, we had met before but only ONE of us was sober! Chad tried to get the 4-1-1 on me beforehand and was only told "She is a nice girl that has her own place" Well to Chad nice girl=not so pretty girl and her own place=trailer park. So you can imagine his hesitation going into this date! It did not help that our friends drove by the trailer park on the way to my apartment!

Our first date was at Ivar's in Mukilteo. I don't think Chad & I said a word to each other at dinner, and in fact our waiter was hitting on him! Afterwards we all went back to my apartment. I think it was at that point, when Chad saw my little Corvette Hot Wheels car that he knew he had found THE ONE. For me it was when I found out he had a DVD player (which were fairly new at the time). You know, the important things....

We were engaged 4 months after we met and married 11 months after we got engaged. 13 years later we still tolerate each other and have a beautiful daughter as a result.

He makes me laugh, he makes me cry (from laughing so hard), he cares for me when I am down and is the best father to our daughter.

Happy Anniversary Chad! I love you!

The Coffee Club

The Coffee Club
  1. Honore de Balzac used to drink 50 cups of coffee a day. He woke at 1 a.m. each day and wrote for seven hours. At 8 a.m. he napped for 90 minutes, then wrote again from 9:30 to 4. He said: 'As soon as coffee is in your stomach, there is a general commotion. Ideas begin to move...similes arise, the paper is covered. Coffee is your ally and writing ceases to be a struggle.'
  2. Søren Kierkegaard had an interesting coffee ritual. He poured sugar into a coffee cup until it was piled up above the rim. Next came the incredibly strong, black coffee, which slowly dissolved the white pyramid. Then he gulped the whole thing down in one go.
  3. Voltaire was said to have drunk 30 - 40 cups of coffee (mixed with chocolate) every day.
  4. Gertrude Stein also loved coffee.  She wrote: ‘Coffee gives you time to think. It’s a lot more than just a drink; it’s something happening. Not as in hip, but like an event, a place to be, but not like a location, but like somewhere within yourself. It gives you time, but not actual hours or minutes, but a chance to be, like be yourself, and have a second cup.’
  5. Benjamin Franklin had high standards for his coffee. He said:  ’Among the numerous luxuries of the table…coffee may be considered as one of the most valuable. It excites cheerfulness without intoxication; and the pleasing flow of spirits which it occasions…is never followed by sadness, languor or debility.’
  6. Alexander Pope enjoyed coffee. He said: ‘Coffee, which makes the politician wise, and see through all things with his half-shut eyes.’
  7. Jean Jacques Rousseau said:  ’Ah, that is a perfume in which I delight; when they roast coffee near my house, I hasten to open the door to take in all the aroma.’
  8. Dave Barry wrote: ‘It is inhumane, in my opinion, to force people who have a genuine medical need for coffee to wait in line behind people who apparently view it as some kind of recreational activity.’
  9. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was an enthusiastic coffee drinker.
  10. Jonathan Swift needed coffee at least once a week to write. He said: 'The best Maxim I know in this life is, to drink your Coffee when you can, and when you cannot, to be easy without it. While you continue to be splenetic, count upon it I will always preach. Thus much I sympathize with you that I am not cheerful enough to write, for I believe Coffee once a week is necessary to that.'

It's True! Time DOES Fly!

So my darling daughter started 5th grade this last week. This will be her last year of elementary school. Next year will be 6th grade at the middle school.

Where has the time gone? I am pretty sure it was just last week when we were walking her across the street to get on the school bus for the first time.

Every day she just amazes me. Either it's because she is so smart and so pretty, or because she has such an attitude and I am amazed I made it through the day without strangling her!

She is an artist. She is an avid reader. She is an athlete (of sorts!) and plays soccer. She is a musician (plays piano and wants to be in band!). She is a comedian. She has a heart as big as Texas!

She is my little angel....at night...when she is sleeping...when the horns retract!!

But I never gave her permission to grow up! I mean she is almost as tall as me now and in 5 short years she (gasp!) could be driving!

So it is true, what people say. Time DOES fly. Cherish every moment because before you know it....they won't be little babies anymore!
